The next time you, or someone in your household (children included) have a fever, I encourage you to head to your kitchen first before the pharmacy.  Often time fevers are an initial sign that your immune system is working. As such, I like to provide a supportive remedy to my body.

The most natural approach to fever reduction is to make a tofu plaster. The ingredients are simple: tofu, ginger and flour.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Ginger is considered a dry, warming herb used to counteract colds. It is antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory and perhaps most importantly, antiviral. Ginger is also an expectorant, which means it helps to clear mucous … i.e. a great tool to have in your arsenal for a common cold or flu.

Tofu. The cooling effect of tofu helps to naturally reduce fevers. Flour is used to bind the ginger and tofu together to make a plaster.

Ingredients:

Silken Tofu (silken has a soft consistency and is easier to mix)

Ginger (fresh is best, but you can use powered if fresh is not available)

All-purpose flour

Nut Milk Bag

I like to keep things simple and am not exact with my measurements (after all, if you are making a tofu plaster either you, or your child, is most likely not feeling well and you want to move rather quickly).

You want the tofu/flour mixture to be ~ 1:1.

Rough measurements: 1/2 cup flour + 1/2 cup tofu + 1 TB ginger

ps … If you find that you would prefer an antipyretic (fever-reducing agent), consider using a natural fever reducer, free from additives vs. Tyelenol. Just as I encourage you to look at labels when purchasing food or products for your body, I take the same approach to medications.

For children, you can use this fever reducer. Effective products, dye free and clean for your body.

I wish you speedy healing!
