From Parenting to Nutrition, I’ve got you covered. I have read all of these books (some more than once) and they provide inspiration on my bookshelf.

Home

Marie Kondo: The Life Changing Magic of Cleaning Up

  • This book literally transformed my home. I read it in one quick read, then read again to follow each and every step to de-clutter my life. It was a transformative experience that extended to my family and their homes. The Kondo Method truly changed my life. Knowing that everything has a place makes cleaning up (especially with a child) that much faster, and frees my brain to focus on other things vs. constantly wondering where I put something.

Health

Breath: The New Science of a Lost Art

  • Reads like an action book, but the message and science will transform your life and change the way you breathe.

The Wim Hoff Method: Activate Your Full Human Potential

  • My father is a true devotee, and many of Wim’s points resonate. I have gone back and forth with the cold challenges (it’s not something you can do while pregnant), but a practice that I do think is beneficial. I am still a work-in-progress here.

Anti Cancer: A New Way of Life

  • A must-read for anyone who has experienced cancer, or knows someone who has gone through cancer – which is probably everyone. Add it to your list.

Nutrition

Fiber Fueled: The Plant-Based Gut Health Program for Losing Weight, Restoring Your Health, and Optimizing Your Microbiome

  • I follow Dr. B’s cookbook for a majority of my plant-based recipes. Easy to follow, delicious and you can find many of the items on my plant based kitchen list.

How Not to Die: Discover the Foods Scientifically Proven to Prevent and Reverse Disease

  • The title says it all. If you are not following Dr. Greger, please stop right now and head over to IG or his website, Nutrition Facts. He is an indisputable expert in the field of nutrition who literally reads every nutrition article in the world, and then synthesizes the material into digestible bits. Highly recommended.

Whole: Rethinking the Science of Nutrition

  • If you are serious about wanting to go deep into understanding nutrition and the benefits of a plant-based diet then I highly recommend this book. It can been dense and scientific, but the science gal in me loves this stuff and can say the studies and points made here are thought-provoking.

Spiritual

Streams in the Desert: 365 Daily Devotional Reading

  • I have gifted this book to more friends than I can count. It is deep, it is serious, and it has served me many times over the years when I needed support on a spiritual level. I have notes in the margins on certain dates (when I was particularly low, or wanted to remember what happened), and it has been such a gift to return to this book, year after year and see how God provided, and my life was transformed in ways I could not have imagined.

The Meaning of Marriage: Facing the Complexities of Commitment with the Wisdom of God

  • I first read this as a single gal, and then again when engaged. I had the benefit of hearing Tim Keller preach many a Sunday at Redeemer Presbyterian Church in NYC.

The Four Agreements: A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom

  • A dear friend gifted me this book decades ago, and the message resonated. I try to implement these principles into to all aspects of my life – especially communication.

Mere Christianity

  • For anyone with even an inkling of curiosity about Christianity. Written by C.S. Lewis, one of the most influential authors of the 20th century.

Parenting

Disclaimer: I was born in Germany, have lived abroad for years, and am drawn to European sources for areas of interest. Once I became a mother I naturally turned to the literature to see how our non-US counterparts were exploring the world of parenthood.

Bringing Up Bebe: One American Mother Discovers the Wisdom of French Parenting

Simplicity Parenting: Using the Extraordinary Power of Less to Raise Calmer, Happier, and More Secure Kids

The Danish Way of Parenting: What the Happiest People in the World Know About Raising Confident, Capable Kids

Moms on Call (all editions) – Hands down my #1 parenting tip! I did not follow the nutrition/shopping section (for more information on how we stocked our nursery head over to this post). However, the sleep tips I 100% followed and agree with. We had a happy baby sleeping 7p-7a from 6 weeks on following this trusted and successful technique.

Currently Reading

I love to read, it literally is one of my favorite pastimes. I usually have at least 3 or 4 books going on at a time to keep my mind stimulated, usually encompassing the following genres: non-fiction, a religious text, and parenting book.

Red Notice: A True Story of High Finance, Murder, and One Man’s Fight for Justice

The Covenant of Water

Liturgy in the Wilderness: How the Lord’s Prayer Shapes the Imagination of the Church in a Secular Age

Being There: Why Prioritizing Motherhood in the First Three Years Matters

Finally, I have to include books from my favorite author, Daniel Silva, especially the Gabriel Allon series. While I am drawn to non-fiction, Daniel writes fiction in a way that is both engaging, intriguing and yet, informational as well. I have learned quite a bit about foreign policy from his books – which then paved the way for me to do my own personal exploration on those topics in non-fiction. I look forward to each new book and savor them.
